American River Drive Rivalry

I go to high school in a rich, white part of Sacramento, California. If anyone that is familiar with the Sacramento area, there is a school in Carmichael called Jesuit High School. Jesuit High School is an all-boys private school with top of the line facilities, state of the art academic departments, and outstanding athletic teams. No more than half a mile away is where I go to school. I go to Rio Americano High School where our facilities are lacking, academics have gone downhill, and an average athletics performance by all teams. For the longest time, there has been a rivalry between these two teams; the Jesuit Marauders and the Rio Raiders. Those who root for either team are seen as traitors and puts you at the bottom of the totem pole. Since, the spring semester of Sophomore year, I have had a sports medicine internship at Jesuit. My history with Jesuit goes back to my dad and his two brothers who all went to Jesuit. Tonight, is the last Rio/Jesuit Basketball game. My freshman, sophomore, junior, and now senior year, Jesuit has won with a large margin. The rivalry amongst these two schools is unruly. Both stands are packed with fans cheering and shouting at each other with anger and hatred of each other. Without this rivalry, my high school life would be very different.
